John will probably kill me for raising this question, but here goes anyway!
It is clear that based on recent BFCC attendance from the USA and European continent, that the BFCC has international appeal from film collectors. I therefore raise the question for discusion -should the BFCC be renamed the IFCC (International Film Collectors Convention)? I see pro's and con's to this issue. On the plus side, a rename to IFCC might attract much more international participation by people in other countries who might get the impression that the convention is exclusively for British collectors. We all know that this is not the case, far from it, people from other countries are warmly welcomed at the BFCC, but some people may not know that and might be put off from attending. On the downside, the BFCC has established itself an enviable reputation and status over almost 25 years and 50 conventions, and a name change might confuse people and lead to loss of identity and loss of attendance. Anybody got any thoughts on this?

I think IFCC would be more appropriate if it changed host countries every time, but as long as it stays put BFCC it should stay! (Tradition!)

Now if there was a USFCC someday, I wouldn't fight it too hard....

Personally i don't think the hobby is big enough to support a truly international convention such as Steve has suggested. Although the BFCC has been going for some years, tradition should not stand in the way of progress and if it was proved that it would significantly improve attendance, and be advantages to the hobby, then i would be all for it.

After saying that Long live the BFCC in what ever guise it takes. [Big Grin]

Funny you should mention this Paul... Keith and I were discussing what to call the BFCC when we do one in the US. We dedided that we would retain the identity but add a suffix...

BFCCC - British Film Collectors Convention Colonial [Big Grin]

British Film Collectors Convention home page www.bfcc.biz. The site is for the whole of the film collecting hobby and not just the BFCC.

I think I agree with Steve on this one. The tradition of the BFCC, and the fact that it is based in Great Britain, and has a distinctive British flair to it, means that the BFCC should stay BFCC. After all, why mess with a good thing! [Wink]
