Why is it that some prints of the boys have wiped out face detail and yet the contrast of the remaining areas of the print remains very good? Is this due to poor printing technique? I have one film where it almost seems they printed it too low such that the heads are missing from time to time- feels like I want to pick up the screen and move it up!

I Know what you mean Tony, I have had a few like these not sure why, but think it's down to poor printing. Blackhawks are the best to go for.

I agree with Chris on that one the Blackhawks are the best prints. Some of the Walton releases are quite nice but are often cut.
I think this problem of bleached out faces etc is due to the negs which have been made from existing prints which were probably dupes to start with. Each time this is done the contrast increases and it tends to be the highlights which suffer first.

GS1200 Xenon with Elmo 1.0...great combo along with a 16-CL Xenon for that super bright white light.

Bang on Kevin, this is also very noticable on the Elvis on the Ed sullivan prints and other TV shows from that era.
