You know, you're right - I didn't even notice he kept writing OPITCAL... I wonder if that's an entirely different sound recording technology that rose and fell with standard 8mm sound? Something to do with optimized pit calibrations, perhaps?

Kevin, that reminds me (I can't believe I forgot about this) but there is an auction for an Elmo sound projector which looks suspiciously like an FP-A but is supposedly "the predecessor of the GS-1200" and supposedly also takes 1200ft. reels. Well - judging by the picture it almost seems possible! But see for yourself...
(The seller also says this projector plays both magnetic and optical sound... he's not being clear on whether this is a standard-8 or super-8 machine...)

Your right Jan, it does look exactly like an FP-A but sound. Never seen one of those before. Incredible what keeps popping out of the woodwork. Looking at the spool hubs I would say its Super 8 only.

Here's an update (and yes, I realize this is all off-topic once again *sigh*): The projector is an "Elmo ST-8 M&O" and the seller confirms that it takes super-8 film AND he says it takes reels up to 36cm in size, or about 14 inches. CRIPES That would mean this machine actually has a 1600ft. reel capacity, not 1200ft.! This all seems very shady, indeed.
