On a topic started about collecting trailers. Does any members collect the reels of ads available from Derann and other distributors. I find that these are very popular at film shows. I have bought some of these spanning back through the years. Some are true classics and have been asked to repeat them again at film shows. The Hovis classics and PG Tips were released on their own. Many now respected movie directors started on these like Ridley Scott on the Hovis ad.

I've seen Derrann advertising those, I wouldn't mind getting the one that has, (I think, the animated Levi's Pcycedelic ad. What I'd like to see, is Derrann or some other seller get ahold of a lot of those old animated cereal commericals that we used to watch as kids, and make a nice big ad reel of them!

All the best!!

There have been some really good ones lately from Derann, as well as CHC.

My favorite is from a recent Derann reel (2003, I think) where some guy is walking around, talking about how no body notices him anymore. Then, we see a car drive right through him, and he says something like, "Thats the second time thats happened this week, it hurt more the first time". Seems he was killed by a drunk driver and didnt know it [Eek!] . Very "Twilight Zone-ish".

There's some great stuff out there if you look!

Nick.

I collect ad reels too. They can be entertaining but they also represent social history. Of course some can be irritating, but at least you can cut out and sell any you can't stand! Although most have been released on 200' reels, some classics have been released individually, such as the VW ad with Kong, or the notorious Dole Bananas ad.

For something different, buy CHC's 'Beer, Fags and Women' reel. This includes, amongst other more innofensive items, around 3 ads produced for major companies that must have been considered too shocking or controversial to actually be used.

I to have a few good ad reels,
The beer fags and women is one i'm looking out for. One of my favourites is the reel that contains the Dam busters spoof. Brilliant. Again, like the trailer reels these advert reels are of superb quality. Anyone who has Ads of the 90s released by Derann will know just how good a bass level that sound stripe can deliver.
A recent find i got hold of is Ads of the 60's with some of Gerry Andersons puppets from The thunderbirds and Stingray.
It bought a smile to my face at the end when the caption of,"the managment of this cinema wish all our viewrs a Merry Xmas and a "gay" new year. Blimy how things have changed. [Big Grin]

I know what you mean Tom. A few years ago I was describing my boss to a visitor at our facility. Because my boss was gregarious, a 'bon vivante', I described him as being a gay person. Only later did I realise that I probably gave my visitor the totally wrong impression! [Roll Eyes]

No, but I collect paper ads, old catalogs and inserts from various film outfits such as KEN, CASTLE and the such - I've amassed a nice selection that someone at a recent flea market (where I vended), was very interested, but didn't buy - Still it is a fascinating area to collect and study
