As our collections begin to age, I believe our longevity as collectors will be determined on how we preserve our precious prints. I'm asking for advice from "seasoned collectors" who may have great tips that I have no doubt never thought of.

Here's my tip for starters :

All color Eastman stock should be refridgerated, however, if you do so, make sure you place it in an airtight, (possibly ziplock) bags. There a different size bags for everything from 200ft. size to at least 800ft. size bags, perhaps even larger. I'mnot sure about 1200ft. bags. What I persoanlly do is put a "selica gel" packet in with my films, as selica gel keeps moisture away. I have not seen any problem or change in my prints quality, but I have noticed that all moisture is off them. However, if you refridgerate, give your films an hour or so to reach room temperature before projecting.

Let the advice come forth!!!

Store your prints in a nice, cool, dry (but not too dry) place... like a finished basement/rec room, for example... which is the case for me. [Smile] ...
Use boxes and cans that allow your prints to breathe, don't shut them in airtight (at least not acetate prints) because they may develop a vinegar smell which will eventually damage the print if it can't escape into the air...
Take care to wind film tight and nice - loosely wound film will sag inside the reel and that could cause light scratches. Also be sure to store sound film away from strong magnetic fields (does not apply to Osi since his films are optical sound) [Big Grin] Um, that's about all I can think of right now. [Smile]
