I just received a copy of "The Fog" from Derann. 3 x 600 in Scope. I posted this in the review thread so it has probably been overlooked. So my problem is that the focus on the entire feature is SOFT. Some parts were decent but others were so bad..I had to sit next to the GS and "man" the focus the whole time. After the screening I thought maybe my lens was out of whack or maybe it was time to get a new Scope lens. So I put on "Grease". And nope.. "Grease" was tack sharp. I didn't know that certain individual prints could be so variable in quality. I had always heard that "The Fog" was a great print and fairly sharp. Does anyone else have this print and can comment? Or has anyone else had 2 of the same film one better than the other? This has been my first experience with a "soft" print that I have heard should be first rate.

Dear Alan,
I've had a print for years now, and mine is pin sharp all the way through, I'd contact Derann and ask them about it, it sounds like a grading or printer problem to me.

Does it go in and out of focus? Can you correct the softness by refocusing? If the film is flat then it could be the thickness of the stripe varying. Send it back.
Kev.

Hey Kev! It doesn't go in and out in a "breathing" way but it just seems like it was transferred badly. Or something. Im not really sure but I do have to say..Adrienne Barbieu..wow. I forgot why everyone had a crush on her but her in the lighthouse with her sexy DJ voice? Maybe my eyes were going in and out of focus!! Seriously though the film is on its way back to Derann as of this morning. Not bad! Only the second film I have ever had to send back. The first was "Rocky" which someone tried to re-record but was WAY out of sync!

I have a copy of this film and mine is fine. got a little bit of a whistle on and off for the first 50-100ft or so but pic is good.
Mind you, do not forget that Derann use to sell white box specials which were cheap but under there usual standard of quality for one reason or another. You could have one of those. We bought Star wars off a list and it had faults on 3 of the parts suffice to say we sent it back and bought new. The second hand one turned out to be a WBS.
