You can’t help but notice all the Elmo projectors that are up for sale at present. Crumbs, I have lost count of the GS1200 machines sold since Xmas along with the other more typical models from Elmo. I wonder what has started the Elmo sell off. Ebay has seen many as have the dealers, not to mention here on the good old Forum.

Thoughts anyone?

GS1200S are getting cheaper, all the other projectors seem to be becoming more expensive [Confused]

Elmo projectors are coming out of the woodwork at the moment and agree with Mike that other projectors are catching up price wise,a Sankyo 501 just sold for £97.00,i'm still stunned that a 700 sold for £281.00 [Eek!]

I was never all that fond of Elmo, but then again, I was never fond of Sesame Street, period.

and let the suckers, (er, fellow film collectors), continue to rake in the bucks for us noble collectors, so we have more to lavish on our wonderful film collections!

Hi.
Yeah noted the last one was a Elmo conversion job. Shame that it was completed re the take up arm. I see that is still set for Super 8.

Whats the score with these conversions? Were they done in Germany and how good were they me wonders.

Yes they were done in Germany and all the cogs are replaced with brass ones. There is obviously an issue I would think with the sound spacing as the machine is designed for 18 frames spacing and not 54 and I have heard tell that you can see the edge of the sprocket holes on screen [Frown]

as the super 8 gate is wider than that required for reg 8.

Maybe someone else can clarify those points.

I think that converted machine is silent. There is no volume control where I'd expect it to be and at least given the quality of the e-bay picture I don't see any heads either.

I guess the user was expected to use a Super-8 takeup reel. Keeping a Super-8 takeup spindle probably saved them from having to tool up a 600 foot R8 reel: not a great thing to do for such a limited run product.

What an exotic machine, though...

Changing tack slightly I put a bid on our NZ "Trade Me" site that had what looked like a mint Bolex SM8 projector, I lost it as it went over the 150 dollar mark [Eek!]

I always liked the SM8 had one when I first started in Super8 and I guess popular with others as well if the bidding last night is anything to go by.
