I suspect he got an offer that he wasn't inclined to refuse, but a buyer may still have got a bargain. It's such a bizarre situation to spend in the region of £1,000 (probably in the 1990s) on the three shrink-wrapped features alone, then have them lying around for so long with no projector, and then casually refer to them turning up after a move.
I suppose a buyer now selling a sealed, brand new, 'Star Wars' could get an enormous sum, although there are of course risks involved in buying new films. The buyer would be quite lucky if every reel of the three new features is completely free of any print or sound faults.
