I recently won an Ebay auction for a 100' Ken Films' F-17 "Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines." This is a color/sound edited version of the 200' and 400' color/sound releases listed in Ken Films catalogs. It was packaged with the green folded mini-catalog (I believe from 1976), mounted on a 100' reel and sealed with plastic wrap and a piece of cardboard the same size as the catalog. The film includes no new scenes, just edits from the other digests, with edited sound as well. The color has shifted considerably. There is an alternate title card (similar to those generic Marketing Films titles) and a familiar Ken Films' "the end" which are both different than the 200' and 400' edits of the same title.

Of course I am familiar with the Universal 8 "great scenes series" on 100' reels, but was unaware that Ken ever released 100' versions of their Fox films.

Does anyone know anything about this particular edit or if other Ken Films were released in 100' versions?

Are you sure that this isn't a well spliced copy of extra footage? It would be interesting if this is a 100ft from Ken Films, as I personally never heard of one from Ken Films.

Osi, this has only shortened scenes from the Ken Films digests. This is why it doesn't seem to be a demo reel or from another distributor. Maybe Ken toyed with the idea of a 100' line and distributed this title to camera shops. It has me stumped!

What an unsusual item! I don't suppose the mini-catalogue mentions the release? I'm inclined to think that maybe it wasn't an item that was sold - perhaps it was e.g. given away with a particular sound projector, or perhaps it was a free promotional item given away to people (e.g.) buying two 400' releases.

Sounds like a promo reel to me. I got something similar to it from KEN back around 1980. It was a 50' abridgement of "Cruise Cat" with Tom & Jerry. It was a freebie you got for mailing in a coupon that came in the boxes for "A Night At The Opera". Definitely sounds like a promotional item. What is its origin? I, too, would like to know.
