I must say after about a week of fiddling with the projector and films, splicer and such, I am totally charmed ... This gives such a great feeling handling the films and ... well, just having plain fun now. Reliving my youth

Considering selling 2500 movies on other formats to make room :-)
Considering selling 300-400 video game consoles and 4000+ games

When more money is available, I do hope I can get a nice working Elmo GS1200 and some nice lenses

If you are considering buying a GS-1200 make sure you can see one working before you commit yourself.

A lot of these projectors were sold for professional use and therefore have had a busy life. They are full of relays and other electrical items, all of which can cause a lot of problems.

Thank you, I'll probably buy from CHC or someone on these forums. There was an Elmo guy doing repairs and specialising in Elmos. That sounds a bit safer than eBay

Yes there were a lot of Elmo's that were abused. Stay away from those!
But a well looked after GS is really one of the best machines ever made for the medium.
Sound is great, picture is great, nice soft piano keys, retro 70's cool styling..can you tell I own one? [Smile]

I started with one 400ft reel of Phantasm and now...I don't even want to know how much is tied up in the little 8mm frame!

Before you make any decisions Vidar,punch in GS 1200 into the
"search" at the top of the page, and it will reveal all the pro's
and cons of this particular machine.As you live in Norway,it might
be difficult to get repairs done if anything goes wrong.and with
this projector it will.Read all the posts and then decide.Myself,
I favour Fumeo,but they are expensive, the Elmo ST machines
are quite reliable and show a mean picture,just beware of those
tracks.

My opinion is grab yerself a ST1200 - if anything goes wrong with it, it's not as difficult to put right as the GS. To be honest I can't see the need for all the electronic features on a GS for the casual collector.
As someone above pointed out, they were originally produced for professional use.

I totally agree Michael, the ST's were like a scaled down 16mm
machine, and are very workmanlike, solid and dependable.A
straight forward design,that isn't over complicated and as I've
said before, is a showmans machine.As Vidar will see in the
previous posts, a forum could have been set up just on the
GS alone, and lets face it,repairs aren't cheap even if you can get
the parts or someone willing to fix it.The info is there Vidar,read
and take on board all the points because it could be a very expensive decision.

Seriously what I want is a projector that will do 1200' reels, 250W lamp, magnetic and optical sound and the GS looked to have all that. If the ST1200 has all those things, I'd might go for that, as I don't need the sync to DVD stuff and probably a lot of other stuff the GS have

Hi Vidar, the ST1200 has a 1200 spool capacity,does Mag/Opt
has a 150w lamp and a 15W amp.It doesn't have the DVD sync
that you require, but even withthe GS, you'll have to get the
necessary attachment to enable this to be done.

Incidentally, the GS doesn't have a 250W lamp, as far as I know. It has a 200W.

Hugh, I did NOT need DVD sync :-) So the only thing is 150W lamp then ... How much would I notice that?

Michael, I only went from the super8data.com and clicked on the GS1200 P Xenon (I think that was the one) it says 250W

Vidar, the Xenon is not the standard machine. The standard Halogen lamp for the GS, as far as I'm aware, is the 200W. I like the look of that machine in Pasquale's link.

Yes, that looked quite tempting ... Shipping wasn't too bad either, but I do need to wait until next year (a few months to get back on top first)

Thanks for all the input ... So all of you agree 150W is good enough and one don't need 200W (I see what you saying, it's 200W on the other models)

Michael's right about the lamp Vidar, I have one and it's 200W.
If you were after a xenon model,they can be pricey.Like I
suggested, I would read up on the machine through the previous
posts as they are interesting and informative and will help you
in making a choice on your machine.
