Are there any tutorials on transition effects such as: dissolve, iris, wipe, fade in/out, cut e.t.c.?

There are plenty of sites explaining what these things are but I haven't found any explaining how to achieve these effects with real film and an editing table.

Thanks.

The effects you metion should be made when shooting. However few cameras offer these possibilities. Some allows you fade in/fade out effects, some surimpression on a limited lenght of film (due to the cartridge system). You may find an accessory called Compendium but, again, it is not suitable for all cameras. The only possibility that I see to make an effect after shooting is to use special tape that gives iris or fade effects. Needless to say, these tapes are no longer manufactured and are hard to find.

These things were accepted as basic on all std 8mm cameras,
and a lot of S/8. New isn't always better.
