I was astonished to hear via Phil Sheard - who is planning a feature on Hammer releases for 'Film Collector' - that the Hammer film 'Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires' was released on Super 8 in the USA. He saw it in a catalogue and wonders if it may have been a Thunderbird Films release. As a Hammer collector, I'm amazed as I've never heard of this, so I wondered if anyone else can offer any information, including whether it was 'scope or flat?

All I can remember was a trailer reel with this film. I would have been very tempted to buy a copy especially if scope.
Famous Films in Miami used to have some of the rarer titles listed, also LA Films could have been a contender. Who knows? Someone I hope.

David - I haven't heard of the trailer on S8 either! Do you know if this was on one of the Thunderbird teels of horror trailers. I know that some of these don't appear to have been imported here in any significant quantities, so turn up very rarely here.

Dracula meets Kung Fu. It was I think the last Dracula from Hammer. It was not the best they ever made, but I do enjoy watching it.
Having Peter Cushing star was a great help. He always treated his films as if they were the best ever made.
It was filmed in Hong Kong I think at Run Run Shaw's studio's. They didn't use sound stages there because every film was dubbed after. It sounded like they had a lot of problems.
Still its fun to watch for 90 minutes.
"Shatter" was the other title filmed there.
Sure the trailer was on a Thunderbird multi reel.

I never saw in any list this title. I like the Hammer Dracula movies and I like also Shaw Brothers Kung Fu movies, but this one is one of the worse movies ever I watched. Fortunately Christopher Lee refused to play Dracula.

As this thread implies, it inspires a wide range of responses so anyone interested really has to see it to make up their own mind. It certainly has its flaws, but I find it enjoyable. Its best moments are very good and the Hong Kong locations make a change. Michael Carreras used to refer to a 'Melody Maker' review that appeared to pull it to pieces and then ended with the words "I'm going to see it again tomorrow!", which he felt summed it up well. It tends to be overlooked that Shaw Brothers had much more input than applied to Hammer's other partners in co-productions, and some of the Martial Arts action is of a high standard. David Chiang was one of Shaw's top stars and probably only Bruce Lee had a higher stature in terms of 1970s Martial Arts specialists. Although Christopher Lee's presence would have helped, even if he hadn't opted to stop playing Dracula by then, it's hard to imagine him being willing to play the role in a film that relegates the character to short appearances at the start and end.
David - what's "Dracula and the biker gang"? Are you referring to the motorbike riders in 'Satanic Rites'? There are no bikes in 'AD 1972'.

I think Brian is refer to Satanic rites of Dracula with the Motorcycle gang. Was there any release of Satanic rites of Dracula on Super 8 ?

'Satanic Rites' didn't appear on 8 in any form, unless (e.g.) there was an obscure European release. I've never even heard of trailer on 8. 'AD 1972', however, did get some 8mm exposure via the Red Fox release of the 'Prince of Terror' promo and the trailer appeared on a LA Films 400' trailer reel, although I can't recall offhand if it was the Vampire or the Christopher Lee reel.
