Can anyone help. I have a Chinon Universal 8 silent projector circa 1965 when switching from forward to lamp, lamp does not illuminate. I have tested the bulb for continuity OK and the filament looks OK. I have tested across the lamp holder with the power on and get no voltage reading. On looking through various online threads I am suspecting the Oil filled capacitor that is wired across the back of the switch unit. It has "Oil - 0.02UF DC600WV Alpha" written on it and has one axial connection either end. (pictures available. Does anyone know where I can get one of these from or a suitable alternative as I have spent a lot of time check ing web sites and cant find an exact replacement. Also does anyone know where I can get a manual/diagram from.

Hi William,
Welcome to the 8mm Forum.
I'm pretty sure your oil capacitor is in the motor circuit and if the motor works is not the problem. I seem to recall something here a few years ago where it really was (and I was surprised), but let's set that aside for the moment and go after low hanging fruit first.
The most common reason a lamp fails to light is the contacts on the socket are shot. After that comes whatever switch(es) lights/dowses the lamp and then the wiring of the lamp circuit.
Way down in likelihood is the power transformer.
Sockets are usually easy to find, easy to replace and cheap too.
The smart thing to do is tap into the lamp circuit before the socket and measure the voltage.

Good evening, I was presented with a Bolex 18-5 projector, but it is with a small defect. The button had a voltage drop marking. someone would have the same projector we take questions. Thank you.
