I would order more from Derrann directly, if it wasn't for thier VERY high shipping. Ian at Perry's movies will charge 12 pounds for shipping, when Derrann, for the same item, will charge twenty or more pounds for shipping. That may seem fussy, but hey, that's literally a difference of twenty american dollars more for shipping. I'm sure that if Derrann was a little more flexible about thier shipping charges, they would get at least a little more business.

Which is too bad, as there is one optical sound super 8 title I'd like, but with that high shipping, I have to say no.

That surprises me, Osi, I thought their shipping rates were pretty reasonable. The nice thing is they use UPS for overseas service which is quite fast and provides online tracking and all the good stuff. I've purchased from Derann twice or so and had my films within LESS THAN A WEEK in both cases. Not bad, I'd say. [Smile]

Osi,

I'm in total agreement with Jan. I've purchased quite a few films from Derann and I'm always thrilled that the films arrive 3 days after I've sent Gary the order.

I have to say I never really compared the shipping rates from one dealer to another but Derann will always receive my full support. I ordered a film on Wednesday...today it is Friday at 9:30am and the package is here on my desk. That is a record for Derann!
Super fast shipping, great titles, friendly sales staff, good prices, continued support of our hobby...what's not to like! [Smile]
Thanks Derann!!!!

That's as good as we get in the UK [Smile] Ok yes you might be paying more for that service but at least you are not having to wait weeks to get your films which you might do if Derann used std shipping methods and not UPS.

I grant you that when I bought Poltergeist from them, it did arrive VERY quickly, (I'm not sure if it was three days, but it was awful dang quick!), but when I look at how little I have in monetary means, I have to be cheap, and twenty dollars is another short subject and such.

sigh ... it must be good to have good revenue. I must say, however, that I've gotten by rather well in my collection thus far and in closing, if thier were no Derrann, I might go as far as to say that there really wouldn't be new super 8 today, and most certianly, not the exceptional quality levels that they have! (okay, now I'll get heat from Classic Home Cinema ... ect.)

get on Osi, i know what you mean about the dosh, im in the same boat, over the years i have bought films when i shouldnt have, funny aint it, being not high earners you'd think we would go with DVD, its so cheap, easy, thousands of titles for next to nothing, and now the quality is top, however,i just cant be swayed from the magic of the projected image by a true mechanical noisey projector, cash or no cash, i need my 8mm fix. It just goes to show there is no price tag to ensure that in a lifetime you need to enjoy yourself. You only live once, at my 13 year old daughters school an 18 year old recently died in his sleep of natural causes, [Frown] [Frown]
When you here of things like this it just makes you think bollocks to saving, live a little, im off to the BFCC with my Bro nx week and i'm treatin myself to something, dont know what yet but sod it i'll find something,

Now, what the hell am i ramblin on about here [Big Grin] [Wink]

Erm, Tom...is it Happy Hour there? [Wink]

I just ordered a 400' film from Derann and paid 23 quid in UPS charges. I bet it'll be here Monday, though. I guess it's all a matter of how fast you want it. You can ask Gary for economy shipping but it can take weeks to arrive!

Anyway, what wuz we on about? oh yes postage [Big Grin]
I suppose oversea's for the usa boys must be a bit of a bind but putting into context as value for money, here i think its £8.50 for a feature. Thats pretty good when you consdider the weight and the procsses it goes through.
Put it this way, if someone over there said here's $30 can you come over with a package i'd probably say get stuffed, all in all, the distance covered and the whole procsess is very large. In my humble opinion, if i could get myself to the states for that dosh i'd be well imprest. [Big Grin]

Now if Derann were to send a 400ft by Small Packet air in a padded bag then it would only cost about a fiver.
Thats how I have sent small films recently and with no problems whatsoever. Take about 3 - 5 working days. UPS is very expensive and I have found out when I have enquired about sending stuff to the US myself [Frown]

Anyway guys this was only supposed to be a posting of Derann's list. Nobody at Derann uses this forum at the moment as Duncan was the only person subscribed. I will make sure they sign up when I'm at the BFCC next week. This way they will also be able to read your posts [Smile]

Just so everybody knows, I wasn't dissing Derrann, God knows they've been a blessing to super 8. I hope that they might read these posts. i think one thing that may help is if they have a "credit" for oerseas buyers to help at east cover the higher shipping costs as really, that's my whole arguement. I love the quality of Derrann's product, top notch!
