Greetings fellow film enthusiasts!

I'm sad to say that I have decided to part with my entire collection of Super 8mm films that I have been collecting since joining the forum from 2011. Since then I have probably accumulated close to 300 films.

I'm not getting out of the hobby entirely I just simply decided to go with 16mm only because I can't do both formats since I just don't have the room or space or time to do both and if I had to choose between the two I decided to do just the 16mm.

The films I have are all the classics like L&H shorts & features, Our Gang, Chaplin, W.C. etc.

I'm keeping my ELMO 1200HD for now since I have about 35 super 8mm family home movies that I want to keep until I can transfer them all on a DVD disc and then I can then sell the projector.

Right now all my films are boxed up so I will have to list all what I have but it's going to take some time to do that.

I would rather just get rid of everything all at once at a reasonable price for a package deal instead of just selling one or two titles here and there.

Thanks,
RS

Film collection now sold! Thank you for everyone who expressed their interest in the film collection.

Very sad news indeed Roger. I do hope they all find a good new home soon.

Hi Roger,
If you do decide to piece the collection....I would be interested in the L&H Shorts and Little Rascals that i don't have(which is most of them [Smile] )....
Cheers,
Matt

I'd make multiple copies on DVD before selling the projector if I were you. Better still keep the projector for special occasions.

Andrew, Roger intends to keep his projector only until he has transfered family films. Unless, of course if when listing his super 8 films he decides to project one, then two, then... [Smile]

Yes Mathew I just may have to do that but my thinking was that someone out there who has the time they could make a really good profit on all these films if they purchase the entire collection at a very reasonable price and they could then sell them separately and make a really nice profit! I just don't simply have the time to devote to doing that.

I was always really very particular on the condition on my films and never bought any junk films and my films are mostly all blackhawks in excellent condition which I purchased on ebay & also from fellow film members on this forum.

You should consider selling to a dealer

I think I would do the same as you Roger, and hope to sell the whole lot. I am just throwing out my interest in the films i currently collect. I'd rather get them in one go...especially with your collection because i know you are like myself and try to get good items and boxes etc...
For the lot however, problem is timing as far as from this part of the globe. My opinion is this will be most attractive to the UK buyer, and then a US buyer, and almost lastly Canadian. Our dollar is so low right now that at ,say, 300 films...selling at $10 each (which is dirt cheap, just using a number), that would be 3000$US
1948.82 pounds
3960 CAD
So the profit margin is alot lower for us unfortunately. If we sold each bought item for $20(3000X20), that is $6000. Not bad, but you get what i mean. Someone from the UK will snag this, just watch.... [Smile]
Good luck with the sell! Great collection I am certain.
Matt

Yeah Bill & Mathew good advise! I will need to unbox all the films first and count them out and then try and figure out a dollar amount to make it worth someones time for them to make a decent profit.

Ah yes thanks for that Dominique. As you say Brian, make plenty of copies.

I hope you get a reasonable price for them all Roger.

Would be pleased to see that list, too, Roger — should you decide to parcel out select items before selling the lot. Thanks.

Steve Osborne of the Reel Image told me the other day he's very interested in buying collections and I'm sure he'd make you a good deal.

Hi Roger,
I just had another idea, that once you compile a list, you could also put the list into sub groups and see if you could sell it off that way as well. For example, package all the L&H's as a lot, package all the Lil rascals as a lot(some of us have shown interest already, as an example), packaged sci-fi as a lot...etc... My guess is you will be surprised how many 'lots' would go here....
Depending where the buyer ends up being(i still say UK-he hee), you will need to ship like this anyways rather than everything in one box, no?
Just another idea.
Matt

Thanks Mathew that sounds like a great idea so something to think about! I'm going to have to find the time to go through everything first because I'm really busy with my magic shows and also doing the singing telegram characters, answering the business lines etc. so not much free time available. wave your magic wand over your films and shrink them down to peanut size. When you want to watch one, wave that wand and presto chango
