I just read on the AV forums that the new 1080p Panasonic PT-AE3000 projector, coming out next month, has a unique facility for CinemaScope 2.35:1 projection. The projector will have programmable presets for lens focus, lens zoom, and vertical screen position. What this means is that you can manually set up the projector for screen size for both 16:9 and zoomed out 2.35 projection, then record the lens focus, lens zoom, and vertical position settings for each format. Then with one press of the menu button on the remote, you can switch between these settings as a group, and thus get instant (zoomed out) scope sized or normal widescreen sized images. Thus you will have true constant image height projection, with no need for manual adjustments of any kind between different format films. The projector is expected to have a street price of about $3000.00 in the USA.

That's pretty slick for a home projector. But can it add blanking??? Without that, you will find that not all "scope" letterboxed movies are the same aspect ratio, such that after you set it up on one movie, the next movie may have small letterbox bars or be bleeding onto your masking.
