Hello
I had a friend of mine ask me about a film he saw back in the 70s (he thinks)and we are trying to work out what the title is, all that he (my friend) remembers is it was about these guys who drove around the world, and in one scene they are driving along and some native warrior jumps out of some bushes and throws a spear at them.
any suggestions as what it might be???????

I'm with Steve on this one.

"Gods" was about an African who was walking to find the edge of the world so he could dispose of his strange find - a Coke bottle.

I dont think that it's the Great Race as this film is about a car race from New York to Paris between the good guy dressed in white, The Great Leslie, played by Tony Curtis, and the bad guy dressed in black, Professor Fate, played by Jack Lemon. (Press the button Max)
The race takes them into Russia, and through Some fictitious East European countries.
At no time are there any native warriors throwing spears.

Hi Pat,

It might be Cannonball Run (1981). have a look from that link.

This film is all star cast, i.e. Roger Moore, Burt Reynold, jacky Chan (!!! well look at him 27 years ago), Farrah Fawcett, Sammy Davis Jr, Dean Martin, Peter Fonda, etc, etc.

BTW was Cannonball Run available in 8mm digest ?

cheers,

Was it a full-length movie, or a short?

The scene you described sounds a lot like a scene from a 20 minute short from 1980, called "Porklips Now". It was actually a parody of the movie "Apocolypse Now".

In one particular scene, the four main guys are in a convertable, driving to Chinatown, but it is made to seem like a cross-country type of drive. At one point, some people jump out of bushes and throw spears at them (in Apocolypse, they were natives, but I don't remember if these folks were dressed as natives or not).

Could this be the movie you are thinking of?

James.
