Just discovered that A.C.Lyles, Mr. Paramount, passed away in September of last year.
What a true gentleman he was, always immaculately dressed, and a marvellous ambassador for Paramount studios and the Hollywood of old. A.C. saw, and lived, it all, from silent pictures to IMAX 3D and his enthusiasm for film, film stars, and Hollywood was infectious. He started out as an usher in a cinema in Jacksonville Florida, and his determination drove him to meet Adolph Zukor, who hired him to work at Paramount. He started his career at the bottom of the ladder, and worked his way up producing B-Westerns, ending up as the beloved figurehead of the studio, which dedicated a whole building in his name.
A.C. can be found on many of the Paramount DVD special features interviews.

I visited the Paramount Studios in October 1995 and met A.C.Lyles in his office for a long talk. He must have known everyone in Hollywood during his long career in the industry.

On his office wall was a photo of him as a young man with a young Shirley Temple. It was quite amusing to see that Shirley was standing on a box. Perhaps it was not really intended to appear in the finished photo!

He was 95 when he died.

My wife and I met him several times when we attended a few Cinecons in Hollywood. He'd always flirt with my wife in a good natured way and he once gave us a personal guided tour of Paramount...spent a couple of hours with us. A friendly and astute man.

You might say that A.C. had class. Something sadly lacking in today's Hollywood.
