Caught this show last night at a local cinema. For $6 you can see digital restorations of classic films on the big screen. I try not to miss the Halloween themes. Considering there is no way I'll ever have the chance to see a decent quality film print of these movies these digital events are welcome. Last year I managed to catch the Dracula / Frankenstein double bill and the restoration jobs were wonderful. Same with last nights show. The Mummy was absolutely stunning. Now I don't have to convince you of the greatness of Boris Karloff but that man commanded the big screen with his presence - he looked impossibly tall and creepy as Ardath Bey with notable help from the perfect Jack Pierce makeup work. The Wolfman was no slouch either. The night time scenes in the fog really benefitted from these big screen presentations. I did find it amusing that they had trouble starting the second feature (The Wolfman) with sound dropouts and picture freezing for about 10 minutes (ahhh digital). That aside the movies still kept their "filmic" look so if you have a chance to see them on the big screen don't hesitate.
Cheers Terry
