As some of you know I have got a GS1200 on ebay at the moment. I know now that all the bidders have had an email from a guy in Taiwan saying that he can supply a new machine at a lower cost and that he will recieve the money via a safe method - Moneygram.
I had exactly the same email when I was bidding on a Nizo Camera last year. I would suggest that anyone who has recieved emails like this just ignores them and for goodness sake dont part with any money as it looks like a sure scam.

One year ago I offered for a GS on ebay.de but I didn't win. After few days I received a mail from a German guy who offered to me an other GS at 900 euro about. I asked some photos and he sent it to me. So I bought the projector...
It arrived! But it was totally out of working! It was not a fraud only because I have a lot of spare parts and I know how to repair a projector. Now that projector is perfectly working. But no more I will accept mails from unknows to buy an item!

I contacted a few other bidders tonight and it looks like this guy has mailed them all. I think this guy mails people on items of high price to amke them think twice about bidding and instead, buying from him. What will they get for their money I wonder. [Frown] I think ebay should get involved in this as it is against ebay rules to approach people like this. Theres a word for people like this but not repeatable on this forum and anyway I'm too nice a guy to use language like that! [Big Grin]

I remember reading the rules of ebay and half.com
in the user agreement, prior to officially signing up
as an ebay customer. (I am probably one of a few that
read the fine print) Ebay stated, that it is against
the rules to solicit and purchase items between
parties without the use of the ebay auction.

However, we are all adults; and adults can do as they choose.

I agree with ebay's rule, and find that it is administered
in the best logical sense for buyers on ebay.

An item is not as important as we deem it to be,
regardless of how much we may yearn for it.

The auction environment can create a frenzy for those
that are smitten with the passion of whatever
they are searching for.

I receive emails regarding bids of a specific auction off line as well, and ignore them every time.

Best Regards,
Michael

Hi Tom, In the few years I have been using ebay I have only got done once by a character selling DVD box sets which obviously didnt exist. Myself and a few others got this guys local police involved and we did evenyually get our money back. [Smile]
What has really annoyed me about this latest guy is taht he is basically try to sell a GS1200 on the back of my Auction by sending a copy of my auction page to the people who have already bid on it offering them a cheaper deal. As I have had this character approach me before I'm sure it a scam and that he will take the money and produce no goods. He seems to target high value products!!! [Mad] and works out of ebay Taiwan or the like. Ebay are useless at policeing this sort of problem and really dont want to know. [Frown]

Tom,
I have been using eBay for about eighteen months and I have had no problems buying, apart from the occasional long wait. If you just follow some basic rules you should have no problems,
1 always check the sellers feedback (very important), and see the kind of stuff he usually sells,
2 Email the seller asking questions not covered by his description and check postage costs before bidding, sometimes sellers charge way over the top on postage costs, and don’t always list postal cost, I am always wary when they don’t.
3 On expensive items pay with paypal, it gives you some protection if things go wrong, and paypal is safe, safer than handing your card over to a waiter who then disappears with it for ten minuets.
Also I tend to stay away from anyone with no feedback, new sellers selling high value goods etc.

eBay is a great way to buy film and a fun way, waiting for the post to arrive, opening the package and then threading it on the projector, the anticipation of what the film is going to be like, I have been disappointed only a few times, and disappointed more than a few times from some dealers that I have dealt with in the past.
I have had three rogue emails about Kev’s projector and they get reported and then deleted, simple rule don’t deal with any emails like the above that Kev has mentioned, or any emails asking for passwords and credit card details, eBay never ask this.
