Just a line to say that there appear to be several of our number planning to hit the bar along the road from the Ealing Town Hall immediately after the BFCC. We shall even have one of our American friends there with us .
So, if you can, come along. We'll no doubt sink a few whilst playing with the days bargains and discussing the shows.
John, you know Ealing better than I do, can you tell us what the name of the bar is about three or four doors away from Ealing Town Hall on the way to the Tube station? Might be a good idea if we all end up in the same one
Mike.

I haven't been to that bar a few doors down from the Ealing Town Hall for years and can't remember it's name. It's unlikely I'll be able to get there after the event as I'll be clearing all the equipment away and I can't really leave all my gear unattended. But I may be able to sneak off for a few minutes - just have to see on the day.
There will be a break in the shows at lunchtime. Once Keith has finished the day's programme how about some of us also get together in the Victoria Hall?
And which of our American friends may be coming?

Doug, Today you're my hero! I hope to come to one of these conventions myself someday, but life is a little complicated at the moment.

Keith tells me of a very nice pub just a couple of minutes from the Town Hall opposite the Ealing Film Studios. All sorts of signed prints of actors and actresses on the wall so should be ideal for a film collectors drinkypoo. We'll just have to remember to get Keith to tell us the name and exactly where it is.
As I have to clear up after conventions and get everything back to Keith's and my place I'm not going to be able to make it. I'm hoping to bring a crate of beer along for a lunchtime get together. Let me know who is up for it and we'll make firm plans.
Keith has almost finished the day's programme. Looks like 4 Super 8 sync' pulse shows are included so should be just about the most outrageous convention we've ever attempted. Spider-Man, Gladiator and The Fifth Element should all get THX Dolby Digital 5.1 treatment on the 24 foot screen. I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing it but I'm also a bit on edge. Whatever happens it should be a good day. More interesting than seeing Millwall win the FA Cup anyway.

OOOHHHHHHH!!!!! I'm getting all excited now. John, i'll have an odd shandy as now decided to come in the car. Can't wait to see the 24 footer and the THX blasting out, going to be so good.
PS. Is there any parking in the Town Hall or do we have to use the parking areas in Ealing.
Chris.

Chris,
For parking there is a big shopping centre opposite the Town Hall and East a bit [about 500yds]. I usually park there and if you leave the car there all day it costs something like £8 I think [I'm not sure because Rob always pays]. I did leave the car on the street once and was literally 2 minutes late getting back to it and had a parking ticket, those Ealing traffic wardens are swift operators!
John,
a lunch time meet up sounds good and I would also be up for a shandy, still hoping to have a swift half after the show though if any one is up for it? Got to give Doug a taste of real, warm English beer.
Mike

Regarding parking, last year I parked directly opposite the Town Hall in a smallish car park that had plenty of spaces. Is this still there?

I've just had a phone call from Paul Adsett. He's also come over for the BFCC. We're being invaded by the Yanks!!! It's just great that so many people are going to so much effort - brings a tear to me eye!!! We're definitely all going to have to get together at lunchtime.
I have a crate of Biere d'Alsace (or some such rubbish!) so we should all be set for a drinkie. I'll try to remember to get some lemonade for the shandy lovers amongst us.
The Town Hall has its own car park around the back. There should be plenty of space if you get there for opening time (BFCC opening time that is, not the pub).
A couple of notes about Spider-Man. I should have mentioned in my previous post that it's a flat film so we'll only be projecting about 14 feet wide. Secondly, the extract we've selected goes right over the layer change on the DVD so it should be interesting how we deal with that. Keep a look out for any deliberate mistakes.

I was just wondering, why is the Spiderman extract flat and not scope? Was there a flat version released on super 8, or is it on another format? Nick.

Spider-Man was flat. There never was a 'Scope version. It's a 1.66:1 film with a bit cropped off top and bottom for the US market giving the 1.85:1 ratio.

So now Paul Adsett's leaving Orlando and heading over to the BFCC? Trying to steal my thunder? It's too late Paul! I'm Steve Klare's hero and don't you forget it! This convention isn't big enough for the both of us. Meet me on the south side of the Serpentine in Hyde Park at dawn. Choose your weapon...FilmGuard, Cresclean, Derann LFC or 2.22! Doug

Doug came over to my place yesterday evening for a bit of a film evening. Today he is being met by Tony Millman and Mike Peckham who are taking him to Derann in Birmingham. On the way back I think they're descending on Perry's Movies and then of course tomorrow it's our little film collectors convention.
We've got to get both Doug and Paul Adsett over to the Wilton multiplex before they go back so hopefully they'll really have a trip to remember by the end of it all.
Looking forward to seeing as many of you enthusiasts as possible tomorrow.

John, thanks for the info on Spiderman. I'm not sure why I thought it was a Scope release. I think that scope trailer threw me off. Nick.
