Hi Mike, I now know that at least 2 people have read my letter! After many years of enjoyment at Blackpool, I hate to think of other keen collectors missing out, hence my attempts to whip up support! I've never flown and the Ryanair flights to Blackpool are fairly new. It's a fairly long journey for me to get to Stanstead, but anyone near a suitable airport may find it's worth looking up flights. I go by train from London Euston to Blackpool. You have to change at Preston or elsewhere. If you get the cheapest Advance Saver ticket, a return from London is £30. These tickets become available about 4-6 weeks in advance. It's about a 3 and a half hour trip from London but having checked times on the Trainline website, there must be work on the line on the Saturday as times are about 5 hours or more. I would not recommend trying to return on the Sunday unless you have no choice - I normally go Saturday and return Monday, but I'm thinking of going Friday this year, which would also save me making the extended journey on the Saturday.
David, Doors open at 10am on the Sunday. The dinner is NOT private, and it's always a good-humoured and entertaining evening that rarely finishes much before midnight. A few older collectors have dropped out over the years so 'new blood' is particularly welcome. The convention/dinner/hotel booking form is sent out by Derann but I can send anyone a scan of this on request.
A suggestion: I'm already on the Saturday dinner seating plan, but if a few people on this list are going for the first time, why not all sit on the same table? I'm sure Anne Simmonds would be only too pleased to assist. They have round tables for about 8-9 people.

I make a long weekend out of it, and travel up by train from Euston on the Friday morning, and come back on the Monday morning. I've been doing this for the last few years now, and except for the year with all the speed restrictions on the railways, I can get into the hotel in about 4 - 4 1/2 hours travelling time, which is not bad at all. So if anyone is still just thinking about going to Blackpool, then please think hard about going this year, as once you've started to visit this event, it is compulsive, as I have been going since 1987 (I think, my first time was when Ray Harryhausen attended, that was brilliant!).
