Here's a question, Reading through various bits and pieces its very clear that a 1.0 lens will give the best light output, as does a 1.1 over a 1.3. What caught my eye was a readup which stated that a 1.3 will give the sharper image. Is that correct? ALSO, i have a Schneider-Xenovaron 1.1/11-30. Its curruntly in a Eumig 807 which (no offence to Eumig at all) i think is a little bit of a waste as its very rarley used. I may have asked this before but could it be modified at reasonable cost to fit my Elmo 1200HD?

The Widescreen Centre knock up sleeve adapters so a lens can fit different machines.

Hi Tom if the barrel is 28mm classic do a very nice sleeve for around the £20 or so mark, had one and it worked well.Sadly i`m out of super now so its gone. If the barrel size is over 28mm or so around its unlikely to fit in a sleeve, there are some around that are ust a bit too big to fit in an elmo or fit into a sleeve, Good luck, well worth the effort. Just waiting for a 16mm eiki one from them myself, great that they do these bits. Best Mark.

Tom, This question of sharpness is a difficult one to answer but I think that what most people refer to when they say that a 1.3 is sharper is the fact that a 1.3 has a greater depth of focus over say a 1.1 or 1.0. With a 1.1 any slight uneveness of the film in the gate will result in the edges being slighty less sharp comparred to the centre or vice versa. The greater depth of focus on a 1.3 will tend to hide these sort of problems. Once again a 1.1 is better than a 1.0 in this respect. The greater the f number the greater the depth of field/focus. The Schneider lenses are in my opinion one of the best all round optics. I think they have a very nice contrast and can give a very clean looking image. A 28mm straight barrel is what you need to go into one of Phils adaptors which he normaly has in stock.
Kev.

I've been experimenting a lot with CHC's 28mm sleeve over last weekend (at our film fair in Paris) and I have to say that the Paillard-Bolex lenses give excellent result. The Schneider Xenovaron zoom that was sold with the SM8 Paillard-Bolex projector, or one of the original Paillard primers, work great.

Tom
I have this lens with the 32.5 barrel, which is what yours is,if it fits the Eumig.{they used this size as a standard.} I have used this lens with an Elmo by citting a groove in the barrel and drilling a tiny hole to take the pin from an Elmo f1.3 lens. If you lay the schneider next to an Elmo lens,so that the rear element is in line, you can see where the groove and hole need to be. This is a bit Heath Robinson, but it does work. Its worth trying ,otherwise you have a very good lens going to waste.
