Dear Tom,
Both conventions (Ealing's BFCC & Derann's Blackpool bash) are similar but entirely different at the same time, if you see what I mean! I go to every Ealing and Blackpool each year, and dealer wise, it's about the same. The shows on the other hand, especially at Ealing can be a little more diverse than Blackpool, as Keith is not afraid to entertain us with different sizes of film, as his trusty Chinese 35mm has a run out at every Ealing, but usually this is used for very rare items, that just do not exist on any other gauge, and is now not viable to release on 8mm (if the print is good enough). Blackpool on the other hand is a more sedate affair for people attending from London or further (Plymouth comes to mind), as you just have to go up for the weekend, it's just too much traveling in one day, so in my experience, I travel up on the Friday morning of the convention weekend, and return on the Monday after, this gives time to apperciate the town, time to appreciate the fellow collectors (most you only see once a year), and their many stories, and if you can manage the full weekend, then please think about booking for the evening meal on the Saturday, it's a great night, with many a laugh, and the food (going by last years standards) will cure any constipation troubles caused by the long journey! Summing up Tom, both conventions are great fun, with plenty of dealers, Ealing is twice a year, and I wouldn't miss either, as these 2 are my 'local' events, but I can't wait for Anne (Simmonds) to send me that booking form for Blackpool, because as I told Adrian Winchester going up on the train last year to Blackpool, once you've gone once, that's it, your hooked. All I can advise you Tom, is if you've got the time (and more importantly, the money), then why not give them both a bash, by say going to the May BFCC, thus giving you a few months before the November Blackpool bash, anyway, perhaps you can think on it now.
All The Best,
Barry.
