Hi wondered if anyone has heard about a problem i'm currently having with my GS1200. It seems that it does not like the 24v 250w bulbs which you can use as cheaper alternative then the original type 24v 200w bulb. Can anyone tell me how to correct this as it seems when i switch the lamp on when running the projector it starts to slow down or even stop in single frame mode which is strange but i assume it's down to the over power and the incorrect bulb being used.

I assume the only way to correct this is just use the original bulb which costs twice as much as a normal bulb? Any thoughts or ideas would be a great help.

Don't under any circumstances use the 250w lamp as you may write off the transformer in doing so. And then you're up the creek without a paddle. Apparently the earlier GS-1200 could cope with them, the later ones cannot.

Stick a £13 EJL lamp in it (24v, 200w) and hope using the wrong lamp hasn't done any permanent damage.

Assuming all is okay you should find you get a brigher image with the 200w lamp. A lot depends on the make of lamp but generally you should get an improved performance. If you can find a genuine ESC then you'll notice an even greater performance.

Robert, Welcome to the forum and I hope you have a good time on here with the rest of the users and manage to find plenty to post about.
John is right about not using the 250W lamp as it can do untold damage to the GS. You can end up with a burnt out lamp holder and worse of all a damaged transformer. The 250W lamp draws an extra 2.1 amps which the transformer is not capable of supplying normally this will result in less voltage to the lamp and therefore less light than the std 24V 200W EJL. You can safely use this lamp instead of the 24V 200W ESC. CHC, Paul Foster Films and Derann to name a few dealers sotck this alternative lamp at a cost of about £10.
The symptoms you give sound quite bad to me and could suggest a problem with the transformer or it may be that the slight voltage drop you are getting with that lamp is causing another problem in the speed control circuit to show itself.
Whatever, get that lamp out of there.
BTW I also live in Essex so if you need any help you could pop round so that I can have a look at it for you.
