Neither of my ST1200HDs have rubber "tyres".I've had one from new.I took the rubber off an ST1200D shutter and it didn't make any appreciable difference.Trev

Thats what I would expect. The diff in speed is so slight that you dont really notice it on most films.

My thought exactly... there must be another reason the sound plays back too fast... or maybe I'm going crazy. [Confused]

And, uh, why are we making a new topic [Cool]

Although the difference is small if your using the existing well used Belts after taking off the shutter rubber you "will" notice the speed up difference. The fix is either a modified lower pulley or the easy option which is good for a year oe two is replace all 3 belts. The new tighter belts will bring your speed back down. [Wink]

Interesting... though I'm not quite sure how a mix of old and new belts would affect the speed - I would think that slippage would cause slowdowns, not speedups. That said, I did put a full set of fresh, new belts on earlier this year.
Maybe what I perceive to be too fast is really the correct speed, and it's my other projectors running too slow. [Eek!] What I need is a stroboscope of some sort, to check the rotation speed of the shutter... Seems sometimes the easiest things are the hardest to do. [Frown]

Jan, That is more likely. I have not heard of ST'3 running fast only slow due to belts etc. Perhaps it's the other machine you should be looking at.

Yeah... I don't know what's with me lately, I need someone to slap me back to reality and tell me to stop obsessing over things. [Big Grin]
Oh, and the belts and rubber rollers... all perfect. Also, correctly using the 60Hz pulleys... Re-adjusted tensions while I was at it... Checked play on bottom sprocket and found it to be OK/by design - actually the screw on the sprocket was slightly loose so I gave it a good tightening - and I swear the rollers past the soundhead assembly stopped riding up and down now. Things are looking up. [Smile]

I may not have explained myself too good there chaps, sorry, What i was meant to say was ,If you remove the rubber off the shutter there is a slight speed increase,
Therefore, as the existing belts will be slightly worn, Replacing all Three belt, not just one, will bring the speed down very slightly.
It was Projectins services, (Ray King) who mentioned this to me some time ago. Altough not a permenant fix this does help as the new belts tend to be nice and taught. Worth a try in the short term.
