quote: Be interesting to hear from any other super 8 collectors in Australia, are there any out there??
Australia is kinda strange things in this forum, never been mentioned a lot, except I mentioned few times.
The scene there is just like other Europe or America's where there are plenty collectors, both packed films like we discussed in this forum or filmmakers. Equipments and films are plenty available. They have also both film festivald and collectors trade exhibition.
Prices are quite tempting, but sometime the films don't survive with fading.
Cheers,

Hi Winbert,
I am surprised that your post here has not been replied to by any Australians before me. Yes the Super 8 scene, and for that matter 8mm, 9.5mm, 16mm, 35mm and 70mm is pretty much the same here as in other parts of the world.
There are various collector shows, in conjunction with still cameras etc, private dealers who send out lists, Reel Deals magazine, dedicated to the film collector and various Super 8 groups at least here in Melbourne and Sydney. There is always plenty of equipment available in our local trader magazines (Trading Post etc) and on ebay, yet most Australian film is advertised on the US site due to its size.
Winbert you are correct that Australia is effected by faded Eastman stock with Super 8 (and std 8). Only one condition accelerates fading faster than high storage temperatures, and that is wild fluctuations in temperature.
Here in Melbourne we have had several days in the last two weeks with temperatures over 40 degrees celcius, yet tonight it has cooled to 13 degrees! I'm sure our northern cousins have big fluctuations too, but I would guess it is in the colder realms, which is not as tough on poor old Eastman (1950's - 1982 anyway).........and don't forget its other trade names Metrocolor and Delux.
One good thing about our warm weather all year round is that lots of Super 8 gear was sold here, as holidays and day trips are taken by families all year round, so there was always plenty of opportunities to shoot.
Any other Australian's out there?

David,
I lived in both Melbourne and Sydney back in 1996-1998. I attended some of the events and were good experieces for me. I still visited Sydney due to flight schedule before continuing to other part of the world. But I lost a lot of contacts with my fellows in Sydney.
If you can provide here any contacts from Melbourne and Sydney, I would appreciate it very much.
Do you hear anything from Super 8 Alive company down in Sydney (Elizabeth St, Surry Hills)? Despite their prices are quite expensive, I visited them last December. The door was closed but still placing their list, no phones were answered, but by answering machine.
Australians are not many in this forum, so will be good if you can invite them.
cheers,

Hi Winbert,
As I speak with fellow collectors, I'll let them know about this forum. I am a member of the Cinema And Theatre Historical Society, CATHS (http://www.caths.org.au/caths.htm) here in Melbourne and there are a large group of film collectors - all guages - involved.
Reel Deals magazine (http://www.reeldeals.com.au/)is put out by the secretary. It contains films and equipment for sale by private collectors, mostly 16mm, but 35mm and 8mm as well.
When I was ready to buy my first new Super 8 projector, my father had a friend who bought products duty free for a fee; he worked for Qantas. My Sankyo Sound 501 was actually purchased in Fiji at a considerable discount compared to the retail price here in Australia at the time, that was back in 1979. I still have it, but it is not used any longer. These days my Elmo ST 1200 M-O runs my Super 8 and a Bell and Howell 266 EX handles the standard 8.
