Hi

I am thinking of buying an Elmo GP or SP projector because I need a reg8/super8 projector with variable speed, but before I buy one I need to know this:

When you change from Supe8 to Reg8 and vice versa do you have to remove and change the sprocket wheel and gate on the Elmo’s or is it a “built in” system?
How does it work?

I need to know that so I can check with any seller on EBay that I get all the parts that I need so I don’t end up with an Elmo GP or SP in either Super8 or Reg8 only

Does anyone know?

Cheers and greetings from Stockholm

Hans

Hans, From memory you just push the sprocket wheels into a different position and this also alters the gate so you dont have any other bits to change.

I have to say that I prefer the later K100 machines. The format change is done with the flick of a switch.

Thank you very much for the fast reply.

I´m curious to why you think the K100 are better?

One of the reasons I am thinking of the SP are the 150W lamp.
I thought that it would give me a nice bright picture on the screen.

Am I wrong in my assumption?

Cheers

I know on the SP ones the switch moves the sprocets and gate to so easy and very kind to the film. One replacemant sprockt moves out, the other in I think. The have both on board if you will.
Funny on these the bulb isn`t fanned unlike most elmos.
Best Mark.
PS the VP ones are a bit more iffy film path wise.

I reckon my SP with 21.5v 150w lamp and 1.1 lens and instant flickerless well lit slow motion, is a pretty satisfactory dual 8 home movie machine. I have a K100 but anyone with $20 can take it away!(sorry Kev) [Wink]

My K100 I had many moons ago gave me a very steady image and a good light output from the std 12v 100w Halogen lamp. Variable speed from 16 - 26 FPS and of course the more up to date Elmo Zoom 1.3 lens.
The earlier machines with the valve base 150W lamp allways seemed to give a dirty looking light output. The lamps are more difficult to get and pricey.
Trev, I'll have yours for $20 but then it would run at twice the speed and brightness here in the uk although maybe I think you might just be 240V in NZ too?

Hi Hans

I've got an SP Deluxe and have to say it is one of my favorite projectors, I think when it was sold new it was top of the Elmo range in silent projectors, the deluxe also has the Elmo sync hookup and can be used to project lip sync home movies just like the GS 1200.

It has an easy change over from Standard 8 - Super 8 just a flick of a switch, the mechanism is so well conceived and engineered that it is a pleasure just to open it up and flick it back and forth to see it all working!

The only problem I had with mine was that when I bought it it hadn't been in use for some time and took a lot of running to make it all run freely again. Unfortunately it has that slightly odd rubber wheel set up that alows a certain amount of slip in the mechanism if it isn't well lubricated and all the spring tensions aren't correct.

Can't comment on the KS 100 but I'm sure if Kev says their good they must be and if Trevors got one going for $20...

Waiddaminnit.... if you drive on the wrong side of the road then you mean to say you're driving on the left side.... which really is the right side to drive on.... it would be the wrong side if it were the right one, though... which means right is wrong.

But left is right so it's wrong, too...

Maybe the only right thing to do is not to drive at all. [Eek!]
No, wait, that's wrong, too... Someone else getting a headache right now? [Big Grin] [Razz]

Hi again

I just wanteed to check one thing.
Kevin says that it is hard to find a light bulb for the SP

I´ve looked around and read at www.replacementlightbulbs.com that the SP should have a lamp that is called EJM and they have several from different manufactures at pretty good prices.

So I would like to know if this is the right lamp or if I have completely missunderstood everything.

Have I?

Cheers

I found the same info on another site and it suggests the EJM (21V/150W) bulb for the Elmo SP-F. So it sounds right.
