Hi,

there are many 1.33x anamorphots that turns your 4:3-camcorder into a 16:9-camcorder. Of course they would work with Super8-/Single8-/16mm-cameras, too. And the telecined video would look great on a 16:9-TV.
But has anyone ever tried one of the 1.33x anamorphots on a projector?
So far I've only found a report on the net, that the 1.33x anamorphot for some panasonic-video-cameras works great in front of the camera, but doesn't produce sharp pictures in front of a video-projector.

The only 1.33x anamorphot that is reported to work fine in front of a video-/film-/slide-projector is one from Isco (Order-number: 345.00, price: 1950 EUR)

Due to the price I would be interested in Soligor's "Anamorphic Lens 1.33x 37/52mm" (Item No.: 65130, suggested retail price: 149 EUR):
https://secure.soligor.com/index.php?id=5&backPID=7&swords=anamorphot&L=1&tt_products=246&L=1
It weights only 152g and has got -NO- light loss, hence it would great in front of a camera. But I don't want to spend any money in a 1.33x anamorphot when I can't use it for projecting, too.

Any ideas, hints, links, ... ?

Thanks,
Jörg

P.S.: Yes, I know that this is no anamorphot for cinemascope, but IMHO 16:9 already gives a nice widescreen effect and so far all producers of 1.33x anamorphots claim that those anamorphots have NO light-loss, while you'll loose 1/3 f-stop when using the Kowa 8Z (or similar 2x anamorphots). Not to mention that the 1.33x anamorphot should work better with the tiny super8/single8-format (there's a reason why Beaulieu released lenses with integrated 1.5x-anamorphot for their 5008/6008-cameras instead of integrating 2x anamorphots).

I doubt that this Soligor lens will work with a projector, for the simple fact that the webpage states "only suited for usage with focal lenghts of 50mm or higher." Your average super-8 projection zoom lens is likely less than half of that so right there that's a problem... unless you want to use a long-throw (50mm or even 75mm) projection lens! [Frown]

Thanks, since my T610 has got a 11-30mm-lens, it sounds like the Soligor really wouldn't work for me...

Nevertheless one stupid question remains:
Soligor's "50mm and above"-remark is only valid for 35mm-still-photography-lenses. Hence it wouldn't be "50mm" for Super8/Single8-cameras. (A "50mm"-photography lens in front of a c-mount-super8-camera would be something around 300-325mm compared to the "mm" on Super8-lenses.) But is the 11-30mm-range on my projector's lens equivalent to 35mm-still-photography or does it have to be "converted"?

That's a good question, I hadn't considered that... the 50mm-and-above range on 35mm film would translate to a considerably smaller range on the super-8 format so you might just be able to get away with the Soligor lens after all. Unfortunately I don't know exactly what the conversion "formula" is right now, maybe someone else can fill you in there. But it seems all hope is not lost yet! [Smile]
