I can say I've never come accross this Elmo projector that's being sold on ebay, have any of you?

I had one of these "demo"(used by drug salesmen here) machines.It turned itself off automatically at the end of a reel. Even though it was mag/opt with a 150w lamp it only had a 400ft capacity.

Like the SC30, which also turns itself ON automatically when you start threading a film.

Ha, thanks for clarifying that. Looking at the pictures, I had the feeling that the capacity was limited to 200ft.

Cool! The only other projectors I'm aware of that turn themselves on when you insert a film for threading are the Bauer T430 and T450 machines. Possibly the Chinon SS-1200, too, since it has that all-automatic-from-beginning-to-end-just-insert-film-and-sit-back-and-I'll-even-find-the-screen-for-you setting on its main rotary dial. [Smile]

I am a bit puzzled as to why a projector designed as a self-contained unit with a monitor screen needs a 150W lamp, but only has a f1.4 lens. [Eek!]

To me, it doesn't take much for it to be just like those Fairchild Seventy "suitcase" projectors...

The late Noris machines made by Fujica do that as well. My son has a Noris 512 and it's completely automatic in that respect.

HE DOES?!! I want to know everything about that Noris 512. Saw one on eBay a long time ago and fell in love... but passed it up simply because there was no information to be found about it...!

(I did eventually order Juergen Lossau's book Movie Projectors but I'm still waiting for it to arrive.)

Yes. The Noris 512 is beautifully made and works really well. It also seems to be very kind to the film. It can do track to track etc as its a twin track machine. Keep meaning to see if it can deliver a stereo output.

It's probably a bit smaller than a Eumig 800 series machine and certainly smaller than a ST600. Not bad light output from the 100w lamp and Noristar 1.3 zoom lens. 600ft reel capacity.

You quite simply trim the leader and poke it in the input guide which switches the motor on. Once it reaches the take-up spool it switches on the lamp. When the film has all gone through it turns off the lamp and and stops the transport.

The film is then rewound accross the top of the machine and the film sits in a small U shape channel. When the film finishes rewinding it again switches it's self off ready for the next film. Very clever design indeed and looks good in it's Bronze/gold colour.

I bought this one for him for £25 off eBay [Smile]

a real result.
