if you read some threads I've started in this section of the Forum,you'll see some info-replies to my questions on a few German-made dual-8 projectors;I'm still looking for one.
Jean-Marc suggested also to me the Eumig-810 or 824(which is not an easy find);by the way,I forgot to thank you then Jean-Marc,mille merci ! [Smile]

PS By the way,what's the trick with the German-or Austrian-made dual-8 projectors?All I've come up so far were Eumig, Bauer, Hld,Exacta etc:is the 'teutonic block'colonising the dual-8 part of the hobby? [Big Grin]

My guess is that standard 8mm simply remained much more popular in the, um, teutonic block (I love that expression!) than anywhere else, such as the USA...

Here's a quick eBay link showing all currently available Eumig projectors (sorted by newest first). The 6xx models might be just right if it can be silent film, but if sound is a necessity, definitely go with the 8xx machines.

BTW: one seller claims that his Eumig was made in Scandinavia. Riiiight..... [Big Grin]

thanks everyone for your opionions. Looks like the Eumig is the way to go. I have an ELMO ST600 for the sound films. Just got some 8mm films and would like a back-up to the ELMO and something to play the silent films on also.

Yes, Chris, the 810D is a pretty good machine...AND they come up for sale quite often and sometimes at bargain prices. I've been lucky....on ebay I have bought three of them over the last three years....all virtually mint. One was the Lux version with the faster lens , one was the HQ with the better sound. the last one was just this past week.....for only 50 dollars. ( It was missing its power cord, but I have plenty of those). Its rare to find an 810 that doesn't work or has problems. "tank" is an appropriate word. I use them exclusively for Standard 8mm and use the elmos for super 8.

I don't know much about this Ricoh, though it seems to be a pretty decent machine. Judging by the photos, though, this is one of those sprocketless drives, which I personally am not a big fan of. And the take-up reel, of course, is a complete design disaster - I don't know what they were thinking with that one! [Big Grin]

But even at the buy-it-now price, I don't think you can really go wrong with this one. [Smile]

Well got it for $9.99. Worth a shot for that price? Hope the take up belt system is not a nightmare to replace. Gotta love e-bay sometimes? Maybe if this falls apart will go with a eumig tank. [Smile]
