I was wondering if any of you guys now of any famous or prized movie or short that was filmed in super 8 or regular 8.

For example I know that the popular cult gore movie "the dead next Door" by J.R.Bookwalter was shot entierly in super 8 the camera used I wish I knew?.

I know that oliver stone likes to shoot some scenes in super 8, I wonder what camera he uses.

Do any of you guys know of any known or popular films or shorts that have been shot in super 8. and what gear they have used.

There was a movie from Leif Jonkers titled "Darkness" shot entirely in Super 8 and filmed in the Midwest. Extremely violent with emphasis on gory special effects. A vampire tale like no other. I believe it is available on DVD and VHS.

Hard Rain's motorcycle-mounted camera shots were Super 8mm.

I also seem to recall Flatliners using Super 8mm for some scenes (of the videocamera viewfinder)...but I am not 100% positive about that.

I remember within the woods by sam raimi, cool

does anyone know if david lynch, or some other arty´s films have been filmed in s8, maybe guy maddin or jan svankmayer with his animations.

this is so cool.

I remember when I bought "When the North Wind Blows"I was told some of it was shot on super 8mm......is this fact or legend??I've had two copies of this feature and both were amazingly crisp and colourful.Trev

Not so sure how "popular" or "famous" this movie is but it was filmed entirely on Super 8 and is available to buy on DVD, so probably worth a mention;

For those horror gore feaks, I found out that the cult german gore film Nekromantik by Jorg Buttgereit, was entirely filmed in super 8. and later blown up to 35 for theatrical excibition.

I´m a bit of a cult horror film fanatic myself and most people dont like this film.

That's the one I was going to mention, I think he also shot Nekromantik 2 and The Death King on 8mm. Super 8 suits his aesthetic, and they look pretty good considering. Though I cannot recommend them to the easily offended, no Hammer-like restraint here, they are very-much subversive, and extreme, but to be fair they have funny and artful moments too.

Ridley Scott's 'Alien' used Super 8 for mock video shots of the derelict space craft.

Now that explains why it's my favourite film.

I've read alot on David Lynch. I really like most of his work.

From what I've read, and heard on interviews/commentaries, David Lynch started with 16MM. I don't recall reading about him using super 8. Most of his early work, like "The Alphabet", was funded by the American Film Institute, so I guess he could aford to go up an extra gauge.

"28 Days Later" was actually shot on mini DV using Canon XL 1's.

Not a film that would be widely known outside punk (music) enthusiasts, but THE PUNK ROCK MOVIE (1978) was shot on Super 8. It was a significant documentary featuring some key UK bands at the forefront of the punk explosion. The use of Super 8 reflected the 'do it yourself' spirit that applied to the music.
