Derann has quite a few shorts out on trains. I love trains myself and am considering buying a few of these.

Does anyone here have some of these short subjects? If so, which of these do you recommend.

Regards.

Snow is brilliant. Check out my review in the 8mm review section.

GS1200 Xenon with Elmo 1.0...great combo along with a 16-CL Xenon for that super bright white light.

You will need to buy "A Train For Christmas" NZ National Film Unit the reason I say this, I have the 28 min version on 16mm which is excellent and I am curious to here what the cut down Derann Super8 is like [Wink] joking aside it should be good.

Engine Driver, is worth reading in the forum review section, also look out for second hand Walton prints eg, Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, others King George V',and 150th Annivessary Of Steam, Waltons prints have good colour.

Black Five is an excellent 400 footer about the last days of the 5MT class 4-6-0 on British Rail and how the men that operated them felt about their passing. This is the same class of engine shown in "Engine Driver". My print runs on the blue side, but the content is great.

For our side of the Pond try to find as many Sunday River Productions as you can. They are wonderful films.

Ditto for the Blackhawks.

Hi,

anyone ever managed to see one of these "DEFA Heimfilm"-prints (Super8, 20m = approx. 3min 16s, colour, no sound)?

Number Title
1201 Schmalspurbahn Cranzahl - Oberwiesenthal
1202 Schmalspurbahn Freital / Hainsberg - Kipsdorf
1203 Schmalspurbahn Zittau - Oybin / Johnsorf
1204 Schmalspurbahn Bad Doberan - Kühlungsborn
1205 Schmalspurbahn Puttbus - Göhren
1206 Schmalspurbahn Werningerode - Nordhausen
1207 Schmalspurbahn Gernrode - Stiege
1208 Schmalspurbahn Radebeul Ost - Radeburg

BTW: "Schmalspurbahn" = narrow-gauge railway

All films are from the former GDR (Eastern Germany), where nearly all narrow-gauge railway were still running steam-engines.

The two Derann Romney Hythe and Dymchurch films are really good. They cover the 15" gauge British railway considered to be the narrowest narrow gauge in the world (or perhaps the world's biggest model railroad, I'm not sure where the dividing line is!). One, "Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Golden Jubilee" is still available, but unfortunately the other, "Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway" has been out of print for a few years because the negative was destroyed. Through a British friend, I managed to grab a print for sale on the Isle of Wight and it was well worth the trouble.

"Jubilee" has a visit by Laurel and Hardy to celebrate the 30th anniversary and Post War re-opening of the line: certainly a bonus for we combined railroad/L&H fans!

Jörg,

The Schmalspurbahn films sound great. Then again I've always been a sucker for narrow gauge!

Mal Brake must have something to say on this subject!
