I have a STD.8 print of a 200' B/W Blachawk Films release called "Circus Comes To Town", and at the moment I don't have a decent standard 8 sound projector, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what it's about. It looks in lovely condition with its OB to boot, I just don't know anything about it, can you help!

I wish I could help you on this Barry. Actually, I was kind of suprised to hear that this was a Blackhawk release. What era of Blackhawk is it? The reason why I ask is late in the day, Blackhawk was releasing Coronet educational films, (The Littlest Angel was an example of this), and so it might have been an educational film. I had heard of this being released by another company, so Blackhawk releasing it must mean that it had some historical significance, perhaps early Ringling Bros Circus footage?

Osi,

It must be quite early as it's in STD.8, but it's definately a Blackhawk release.

Barry,

I have gone through my pile of Blackhawk catalogs and it does not appear. I know Blackhawk did not put every film in every catalog and it is possible I have some gaps.

There are four other Blackhawk circus films they sold, but not that one. I also checked the Castle range (which Blackhawk sold), it also shows several circus films yet not that one. My Blackhawk catalogs cover much of the 70's which is when they had their largest catalog.

Perhaps it was later re-named and is one of the ones I have listed?

David

Barry,

A-1 Video lists a silent version of this title. The description reads:
CIRCUS COMES TO TOWN
Produced in 1937, this film pictures the traveling circus in the waning days of its glory --- days when it traveled from town to town by train---days when a parade down Main Street found every kid in the vicinity lined along the parade route hours before the quavering notes of the calliope heralded its approach. While some circuses still remain, most of them are simply shadows of their former greatness with attractions that crisscrossed the country every year. They no longer travel by train, but move by truck. And the parades---gone forever. This film shows things as they were back in the halcyon days of showmanship.
Regular 8mm / b & w / silent / 200-foot-reel release by Blackhawk Films / L.N. shape / .....................$10.

Phil Johnson also has this title but in sound. His description: "THE CIRCUS COMES TO TOWN - Great scenes as the circus sets up for the big show. 1930's Paramount short -$39"

I think there's room for just one more film.....

Doug,

Thanks very much, that description is very helpful, the print looks in good shape so I'll be able to list it now.
