I am literally tossing and turning over buying a new print of Hammer's The Mummy from Derann. Gary quoted me a fair price but with the abysmal exchange rate it's still double what I usually spend on a feature... Anyway, not sure why I am posting this, but noone I know would understand spending that much on a film... so I guess I want some encouragement to just do it. Judging from the posts in the review section it's probably worth it... but the rational side of me is saying, "Just wait for it to pop up on the used list or Ebay." That could take forever though! [Confused]

I'm not sure what the Derann price for the Mummy is , but even on Ebay , it's not cheap. I finally got one off ebay this past year and the bidding was up to $300 . And I've only seen that one print come up ...at least on the USA side. This print was essentially mint..and came mounted on large reels. Saying that, I can tell you that the print is sensational in all respects. The sound is good..and the picture sharpness and color values are as close to perfect as you can get. If you really love this movie, you won't be disappointed with this print. It's not too likely that a used print will show up very often. You might check with Steve Osbourne of the Reel Image, 1-937-296-9036. I order my films through him..but he also just acquired literally a huge semi truck load of super 8 films from a collector and hasn't gone through all of it yet...there may be a print of the Mummy in there or he may give you an idea of where to find one and what the right price should be. Again....the print is magnificent. So sharp you can see Peter Cushing's blue eyes...even in the medium shots.

Good for you. I would also recommend the Derann Scope feature, Dracula , Prince of Darkness. I had a 16mm flat/pan and scan of it and sold it after seeing this super 8 print. And if you have the money, don't worry about the cost of The Mummy....after a few months when the dent in your bank account has been re-filled..you will put that film on the screen and you'll love it so much, you won't remember how much it cost. You'll only think of how much pleasure the print has brought to you and to those others who may get to view it. Also you'll be supporting Derann in their efforts to keep good super 8 features available to us. Let me know when you get the print and what you think of it.

Andrew - I saw your great Mummy review and that's one of the reasons I decided to get it...

I already have the scope DRACULA, PRINCE OF DARKNESS and LOVE it... it's the best print of that film I've ever seen even better than the DVD. I used to have a scope 16mm print and the color was so faded I decided to sell it and get the super 8 print and it was well worth it. Getting the MUMMY actually completes my collection of all the Derann Hammer titles - one more reason I just had to buy it!

Doug -You're right, of course... I was already falling off the cliff and just needed the final shove. Now I have to wait six weeks but it's always exciting getting a brand new, untouched feature from Derann! We all know there's really nothing like it in the world.

Wow - My MUMMY print just arrived after only a week... instead of the month that Gary said it would take. I hope it's a real fresh one from the lab and not a used one they found lying around. I will watch it this weekend and report on how it is... One bummer: the box has no artwork at all on it. I seem to remember it having great artwork of Lee in his Egyptian costume on the first box. If anyone has it I would love a scan so I can paste it on. I'm a sucker for the packaging... Maybe Derann is cutting back on the presentation of their films which I think would be a real shame. Thanks for any help!
