Hi,
the machine glues a magnetic sound-stripe onto the film. Depending on the machine it'll only use the main track or both main and additional track. After the film has left the machine you can record & playback sound on the magnetic stripe (with a sound-projector/editor).
Jörg P.S.: These home-striping devices won't work with polyester-based films (e.g. the Fujichrome R25N/RT200N) and with some of the newer Kodak-products (e.g. like the e64t). And they normally only work with processed films.
