I just won a Chinon 2500gl which I am going to use to transfer 8mm home movies to DV then dvd. It runs film beautifully but doesn't run consistently every time I turn it on. If it runs when I start it, it never stops until I turn it off. It seems like it has frozen up but when I try it again, forward or reverse, it starts. It has never failed with film in it- ALWAYS restarts or changes directions with film in it.

Any thoughts on what I can do to fix it? Is it something likely to get worse quickly? Right now, it is not really much of a problum at all. I am just worried it might be later on, ( I have in excess of 20 400 foot reels to transfer.....)

Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions!

Sounds like there may be a sticking relay in there somewhere. My own Chinon SS1200 suffered with switches getting stuck. They're pretty flimsy and after years of use loose their ability to open and close as required.

For decent transfers you may find the Chinon is not the best machine for the job but it may maintain the correct 25fps synchronisation okay.
