I'm having a problem getting a sharp focus. When I turn the nob it gets close, but then looses focus completely, if I go a little to the left or right. I then turn the nob back and forth to get it back, but doesn't want to get a sharp image like it used to. If there is something I can easily adjust, that would be great!

I feel like I want to help here because I also have an ST-800, but I've never had this problem so I was waiting for other wisdom (-assuming I actually have any...).
I just popped the lens out of mine and it looks like all that is involved is a pin on the side of the lens engages a spiraling slot linked to the focus knob. Delightfully simple: doesn't seem anything could go wrong (...until something does!)
Does your lens have the pin in its side? Does it protrude as far as the slot is deep? (ie: is it jumping the slot wall?) Is the spiral firmly linked to the knob?
(Will Lassie rescue the lost sheep? Tune in to next weeks episode!)

One problem I have seen before on the Elmo machines is the small metal strip spring touching the edge of the protruding rear element instead of the rear of the lens barrel. This means that the lens when pushed back against the spring pushes forward again on its own. The spring strip should be up close against the edge of the lens holder when viewed with no lens. It should touch the outside of the rear of the lens and not the raised up rear element. Hope that all makes sense. Very difficult to put into words.
