I don't know if this topic has come up before but out of interest how many St1200 machines were made? They seem to be a favourite machine when they came out in the heyday of cine and are still highly sort after today....Mark.

Hi Mark
I think it would be fair to say that the Elmo ST1200 range of projectors did more to promote Super8 than any other make, this was due to their simple to get at film path "a big plus in my book", 1200ft capacity, 15/150watt lamp and if fitted with a F1.1 was an outstanding projector for putting on away film shows etc, my original ST1200M model I bought second hand in 1979 still goes really well [Smile] never let me down once and must be over 30 years old. I think it was bought new around 1975. One would think that in this video projection age [Roll Eyes] such projectors would be easy and cheap to come by, but out here thats not the case if you are lucky to find one they can still fetch a high price, which in itself really says a lot for the Elmo ST1200 projectors.

The Elmo ST1200D which offered both magnetic and optical playback. I once owned one, should have kept it as they are now very rare.

Graham.

Hi Graham,
Yes i agree about about the actual design and reliability of these machines and have owned five of them (still own two) which lead to the question of how many being produced. My very first ST was a really lovely Mag/Optical machine that was in lovely condition and made me realise the quality Elmo had produced,It ran like clockwork and never let me down. The 1200 capacity must have had huge appeal back then together with ease of use and bright picture. The Moviemaker magazines of the day were filled with dealer adverts selling the latest model and they sold all over the world,so how many did they sell? I would have thought that these were one of the biggest sellers of projectors and would be interesting to find out the numbers....Mark.
