Jeroen,

There were negative problems with this title (Derann's first Disney feature) that resulted in color variations from one reel to the next and an overall lack of sharpness. My print has very nice color and great sound, so I still enjoy the film, but I make sure that the projected image isn't too large, since the lack of definition becomes more noticeable.

I have a print that I'm quite happy with, apart from some mysterious 'specks' on reel 3. I think the 'problem' was that other releases around the same time (eg 'Mickey's Christmas Carol') indicated that greater sharpness was possible. However, it's by no means bad and if you were to compare it with the Disney shorts or cut downs, I'd say it's better than most.

My print is fine for quality, sound etc. I'm aiming to move it on because I don't regard it as a 'proper' Disney!! It is plastic-y, CGI bland and boring - I don't know why I bought it in the first place. Maybe because Derek sweet-talked me into it!!
Cheers, David E

Hello everybody, tonight i have seen the little mermaid and for me the quality is okay.
I know for sure that this movie only is in this quality.
I was operator in 1998,and i had also the same focusproblem as this super8 print, and that was the original 35mm cinema release, the same sharpness as derann.
So it isn't the fault of derann but it is a fact that only the dvd release is sharp.
Super8 or 35mm from Buena Vista it is the same.
Thank you david for this beautiful print i have enjoy it,and it's a juwel in my collection. [Wink]

When I saw the print in the theatres (35mm Print) here in the states it was Pin Sharp!
I had the Derann print and I had to sell it. I tried living with it but I use to be a projectionist for a film lab...I couldn't take the blurriness!

Are any of the other Derann/Disney features having the same problem? I only have two of the full features from Derann, (Fantasia 2000, Snow White, and reel one of Rescuers Down Under) and they are pin sharp.

Now, on the other hand, the sound on my Snow White is atrocious.
I was stunned at how muddy the soundtrack was.

It is not pinsharp you're right i have beauty and the beast and that one is much sharper, but i don''t have a problem with it,really i don't make a joke with the second release from the little mermaid in 1998 i was the whole time busy with the focus. [Big Grin]
