Hi guys,
am new to the forum but have been reading for a while. I would like to know , does anyone sound stripe reg 8, s-8 and single 8 film here in the states? Or do I have to ship overseas and at what cost.

I know that Super 8 can still be soundstriped. I can't honestly say as to where, though. I'm sure one of the other lad's or lassies will clear up that mystery.

As for sound-striping standard 8mm, that's another question altogether. I highly doubt that there's much of a request for that these days, but I could be entirely wrong.

Hi John,

As far as I know nobody on our side of the pond stripes commercially anymore. A few years ago there was a fellow in San Francisco who took over Paul Yost's striping business and found the demand for his services was so thin he actually donated the equipment to a motion picture museum and closed up shop. In my opinion what got him is his pricing was more than some overseas places would cost including shipping, and since he was new to it he lacked the experience level where people felt confident in the results. This is a one shot deal: doesn’t make sense to take a lot of chances!

The last time I striped I used EVT Magnetics in the UK. The shipping cost wasn't bad at all, the problem was the fees for changing Dollars to Pounds. I got around this by an English friend paying him for me and we settled the exchange between ourselves (I held the dollar equivalent for him to buy stuff in the US in exchange). If this is an option for you it is the best way to go.

John-

Believe me, I used to get stressed out about having to send my films to England to get sound-striped. But NO MORE!!

EVT is a wonderful place to do business. The owner will usually call you after you send him the film, and let you know the progress.

I just got alot of film sound striped there. 64-T, they used the liquid stripe, and it records very strong, the best I've heard in a while, actually.

They are usually fast too (about 3 weeks), usless you send it in the winter, as I've been told that the liquid stripe doesnt apply well in the winter, and takes longer.

EVT- use with CONFIDENCE!
