On a couple of my Eumig sound machines, the film really has to be pushed firmly into the film slot to get it to engage...with other machines, the film doesn't have to be pushed at all because the machine gently takes it in. What's the answer/adjustment?

You are probably referring to machines models 905, 910, 912, 926 and in general, to all machines with the side-to-side-reel assembly: these machines have no upper sprocket to engage and help pull the film into the projectors; in these machines the film is pulled directly by the claw which is located farther away as opposed to the film slot. That's why you have to push the film further in before it starts getting transported by the mechanism. There is however a rear sprocket wheel in all of these machines for sound purposes. Both sprockets are present, instead in all Series 800 and on models 932 and up to 940.Hope this helps.

Maurizio is exactly right. With the coaxial Eumigs, which have no feed sprocket, you really have to give the film a firm push to grab the claw. Nothing you can adjust out Simon, it's just the design of the projector.
Incidentally, on my 926 stereo I noticed that the removeable clear plastic film guide ,at the top front of the projector, had some really sharp edges on it, so I smoothed them down with some fine sandpaper, and polished them up. It's very important on the 926 to keep that whole feed chanel area, including those tiny rollers and the flapping roller, spotlessly clean, in order to avoid fine scratches.
On my 926 I have the most problem when projecting 600ft reels, which results in jerking of the feed spool towards the tail end of the reel. 200 and 400ft reels seem to work fine. So I added 2 extra rollers to the machine, which really reduces the film thrashing between the feed spool and the projector's input roller:

The only problem with this mod is that you can no longer rewind the film on the projector.

Many thanks for your answers Gentlemen. On my S910 (black), film is gently pulled into the projector; nothing but the lightest push is required. On others S912 or S926, a much harder pushing in of the film is needed, until the machine grasps the film.
