Apparently Bell once was trying to find another way to preserve audio by printing optical sound on 16mm film but no picture on it. Only sound.

Separate audio tracks are not new but usually on 35mm. It sounds like it was some kind of presentation film and the picture was super 16mm and could not have a sound track on it. Why didn't the guy just put it on 16mm reels. It was frustrating to watch. There are super 16mm projectors.

i know that the TV channels over here used to use silent 35mm
and a separate audio track with some of their broadcasts.
