This really isn't a review, so I thought I'd put it on this section of the forum.

Thanks to the great Andreas Engling (I think that's how his last name is spelled), I now have part one of the Marketing version of the STAR WARS digest, and I am impressed.

The copy I recieved is a nearly unfaded Kodak SP. In most shots, you can't see any fade. At any rate, Jean Marc was quite correct, the color saturation is better in this version of the digest. One thing that always kind of bugged me about part one of the Ken Films digest, was that color looked just slightly "flat" and tired. The Marketing film color doesn't make the film look dated at all.

The other thing I like about this Marketing films digest is that the flow of the scenes feels a lot better. Each scene shown gives you more of the scene, which makes re-recording into English easier. A few light harsh cuts, but not bad at all.

I'm very happy with it!

Congratulations, Osi. Mr. Eggeling is indeed a fine fellow. More info about the Marketing version can be found here.

Thanks Doug.

You reminded me that it was Rob that did the recut of it all. (I mistakenly thought it was Jean Marc) I think I will leave this part one as it is, and, when I find another good copy of STAR WARS flat version, I will just add the last battle sequence to it, as the color on that part 2 is quite similar to the Marketing version, though more grainy.

Osi, I have spliced them too a few years ago. You'll notice that once the sound is properly rerecorded, the differences in stocks between the Marketing and the Ken versions are no longer noticeable as the story flows continuously. I even had a DJ friend in Ohio redo the opening voice from the Ken digest (A long time ago...)

Jean, a question for you from when you re-recorded the STAR WARS german version ...

Did you record it altogether, and then splice the Ken and Marketing versions together, or did the record after you spliced to two together, as I'm looking for just the English audio for the Marketing version.

I think that I'll keep that marketing version all together, (except, I'll edit into it, from the point that Grand Moff Tarkin asks, "Are they away?", from the Ken films Part 2)

Rob was right, I have noticed that the Ken Films one was printed a little lighter than the Marketing one, but I still insist that the Marketing version has a richer saturation to the colors. It doesn't look as "aged", even with the Ken's version with perfect
color.
