Hi Forum Members,

I need some advice & comments from you all about a Projector that I have not had much to do with in the past.
It is the Bolex SM8 Super 8mm Sound Movie Projector.
An aquaintance has offered me a magnificent specimen, complete in its original box & not a mark on it. The machine still looks new and has its manual & accesories. He has replaced the belts with genuine ones and left the machine with me for assessment & purchase if I want it.
Can anyone tell us if these came in various versions or are they all the same.
Are these an especially good projector or are there things to look out for.?
Any helpful advice would be appreciated,
dogtor Pufferfish

Hi Frank
The Bolex SM8 is an excellent projector, I did hear that you can have trouble with the variable 18/24 speed as its simply a V pulley drive that moves the belt in an out depending on what speed you want. In all the time I owned one back in he 70s I never had a problem also I think there is a slight difference between the models on the recording side of things. There are some photos in this forum both in screeing room pictures and previous topics of this projector and will take the Bolex 800ft reels. I would not have the slightest hesitation in buying another one again, in fact would like to get my hands on one [Smile]

Graham.

Hi Graham & Jean-Marc

The Lens is a Paillard Bolex 1:1.3 f= 15-27mm HI FI.

It looks crystal clear and projects a very sharp image.

Here is a pic of the Bolex to see.
