I am looking to purchase a feature film which is on 2 x 12ooft reels. I will require it breaking down into 3 x 800ft reels. Anyone recommend this.

I don't see why not. Just find a suitable place in the narrative for the reel changes so as not to disrupt the flow too much.

I'm thinking the odds are pretty decent that this feature didn't start out this way, and if you are on the lookout you will find splices at either 400 or 600 foot intervals where the original reel breaks were.

If you break the film at the existing splices, either 3x800' or 4x600' will be easy to do.

800 foot breaks are more convenient to project, but 600 foot reels play on a greater variety of projectors than 800 footers do.
