Just a general question regarding the 600 ft version of ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 which was released and distributed by PM Films (Beaconsfield, I seem to recall). I never got a chance to see this on my beloved Sonector LS back as a teenager. Anyone tell me what scenes were included in this particular version?

One of the best cut downs ever on Super 8. Only after repeated viewings will you notice one of the characters disappears and we don't see her demise. I haven't seen a copy for years (missed one for a tenner at the BFCC in March - collector in front of me got it!) but I recall the prints as being good. Only downside is it wasn't released in 'Scope. All the best scenes are there though.

Welcome John, if you run a search I think you'll find a thread we did in the past about this one, although don't think it covered specifically what scenes were included, I think it was John who made the point that it had a first class editor work on it.

Following the PM release, Derann also re-printed the same extract from PM's negative a few years later. I haven't seen either sadly although I did have copies of "Watership Down" by both PM and Derann (another 600ft extract from the same negative) and the Derann was much sharper.

It would be great if someone could do a review, ideally even of both different prints!

****WARNING: SPOILER ALERT*****
Fantastic. It was always one of those films that loses it's impact in pan and scan - ITV's early screenings from 1982 onwards were pan and scan and the early video copies were poorly done. The Optimum Classics DVD has some really great extras - so I suppose that's one virtue of DVD. I wish I had seen it. I guess the female killed was Julie in the Precinct.

Forget the cutdown which I always found too grainy and on the dark side and go for the superb Region A blu ray of ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 released by Image recently.

The picture quality is excellent in the correct 2.35.1 ratio along with the DTS HD master audio track.

Extras inc a full length commentary by John Carpenter, new interview with John Carpenter & Austin Stoker the theatrical trailer and an isolated score!!
