Some films thread fine. Others stop at the rear sprocket causing bunching.

What might be the cause?

Michael...In my experiences with mine you must have the film trimmer on the machine do the trim on your leader or it will get caught up in the second sprocket.

The trimmer would have been my guess too.

After that maybe it's some difference in the thickness/stiffness of the leader?

Make sure the film has the correct curl. When dangling from the feed reel it should curl slightly towards the projector and not be straight down or away from the projector.
