I forgot to report on our outdoor poolside "dive in " movie that we had Sunday before last. We live in Virginia, near Washington, D.C. and had a few folks over and some film fan guests from Ohio staying for the weekend. We try and have an outdoor showing by our pool every Labor Day weekend when they come to visit. I had actually intended to show Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, but they requested instead, Dracula , Prince of Darkness ...the nice Derann scope feature. We have a 17 foot scope screen...( with black masking, etc..it comes to about 16 feet wide). We used to be only able to show 16mm due to brightness concerns..but with 1.Steve Osborne's ( the reel Image) fantastic screen paint on the screen and 2. an elmo gs with two blade shutter and great fuji lamp, and 3. the f1.0 prime lens with the Rectimascope lens....there was ample brightness for this classic Hammer film. We also showed some previews and the scope Disney cartoon, Bearly Asleep.
There was one young lady there...must have been in her early to mid 20's ...who said she liked it..even though it was the oldest film she had ever seen. ( 1965?)... After my mouth was shut again, I thanked her for coming. She said maybe she'd seen some films from the 80's. All that classic stuff....lost on her. But the Hammer film held up very well .

Gary,

It sounds like you and your guests had a great time.
You've also really 'stepped it up' with scren paint, 1.0 lens and all, so it must have looked great.

I also enjoy watching movies outside on the patio but since summer came to an abrupt end here in Seattle, I am starting to plan for Halloween. I purchased a $2 semi-transparent tablecloth at a party store and taped it to my picture window in the front of my house. I projected a movie and it showed up great from the outside. I am in the process of purchasing a few horror movies on ebay, Frankenstein, Dracula and the Mummy. I will have them running as the trick-or-treaters come knocking. I realize that the movie will be backwards on the window but it should still look great. I will have a few projectors set up so I can start a new movie right away.

Turn the projector through 90 degrees and use a mirror

yes..I used to project from inside on a window shade..and that's exactly what i did...I simply aimed the projector away from the shade...put a hand mirror in front of the lens...and it was perfect.

I will try a few experiments with a mirror. That may also give me some more distance to make the image larger.
