Hi!

Does anyone know if T.V. series were available on film? I see some superhero series on ebaY all the time. Am specifically wondering if

1. The Adventures of Tintin,
2. Agatha Christie's Poirot starring David Suchet,
3. Agatha Christie's Marple, and
4. The Wonder Years

would be available on film. Smaller gauges would be nice but any format would be fine.

I'm not certain in relation to every series you have mentioned but I suspect you may have no chance of finding any, unless any appeared earlier than Poirot starring David Suchet, which I looked up and see started in 1989. I'm quite interested in the subject of TV material on film, so have discovered that it was generally starting to disappear by the mid-1980s. I haven't personally come across anything TV related for sale on 16mm beyond 1988 hardly anything was being printed on film by that time. There are one or two exceptions but I'm afraid they are unlikely to include the series you mention.

Thanks, Adrian. I just felt that since all these series were made on film (right?), there would be copies floating around.

Tintin is available several titles in German (released by UFA). Hans van der Sloot offered this very title on sale two months ago. Contact him if you are interested.

Akshay - that's what I used to hope before I looked into it further! Unfortunately, a production shot on film is no guarantee of distribution prints, especially from about the mid-80s onwards. An expert who worked in TV advised me on the 16mm Forum that in the case of US productions shot on 35mm there would sometimes be ONE 35mm print struck for telecine transfer. But even if you collect 35mm and you somehow got hold of one of these, it wouldn't be much use as it would be silent and wouldn't have the titles! Very occasionally, something in this line has been known to come up on eBay. E.g. I recall a 16mm silent print of 'Last of the Summer Wine' being offered some years ago, probably from the 1990s. But the chances of finding a sound print from that era would almost certainly be nil.

I have had an episode of the tv series "The Persuaders" on 16mm
I've a few on s/8 opt along with"The Adventurer".There are prints
of "The Prisoner" and "The Avengers" out there,even the odd
"Dr Who" episode!Adrian is right though, fairly recent TV shows
are generally not available,so Akshay,my old son if you want to
have these in your collection...........dare I mention the dreaded
DVD.

Hugh, these series are available on Instant Watch on Netflix. When I watched a few of these episodes, I realized they were film transfers. So, I thought it'd be nice to have a few, fairly recent, television series on film.

Hans does have some Tintin episodes, unfortunately, in German. I might get one from him. Let's see.

as for the "Adventures of Tintin": at least "Tim und Struppi im Sonnentempel" ("Tintin and the Temple of the Sun") is available in German in 3x80m:

Okay, it isn't a part of the TV-series as it was originally a cinema-release, but I've seen some more "Tintin"-films from French, Belgian, Italian and Spanish sources.
